Sichuan Earthquake in One Year Report
On 12 May 2008, a massive earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richer scale at Sichuan Province's Wenchuan City. The Wenchuan earthquake left 88,000 people dead or missing and near 400,000 houses injured.
After the earthquake, the Hong Kong Committee UNICEFcalled for action to help the victims in Sichuan. More than HK$140 million have been raise for emergency relief from Hong Kong . In addition to the funds received from China and, other national committees and offices, UNICEF has raised more than HK$280 million in total. UNICEF is working for the Government of China and non-government organizations on various recovery projects including health and nutrition, water and sanitation, education and child protection.
