You still lose money if you buy ores and smelt them...
If you mine ores and smelt, why don't just sell the ores lol

Iron ore - 200gp
2x coal - 260gp x2

cost- 720gp

steel bar - 940gp

profit - about 200gp

So you make money if you smelt bars (steel, mithril, addy or runite)
