響postulates/axioms裡面
整d assumptions/assertions
再加d hypothesis/propositions
就形成一個model
咁就係一個theory
一個理論點先算有用?
The observations contained in the theory must be observable and potentially refutable by facts. Therefore, a theory is said to be useful if it has implications that can be potentially refutable but not yet refuted. Theories can never be proved because it is always possible that the next observation would be a refutation.
'We can never prove a theory, because unexpected events in the future might make it fail - no matter how much we have come to trust it.' - Milton Friedman
unrealistic assumption will cast no problems on the predictions. For example, is a 1:1 map useful? The same argument applies to models. Everybody will agree that the ingredients of a dish are all right if it tastes nice: the proof of the pudding is in the eating. By the same token, assumptions are acceptable if they give a 'good' model.
'The value of a model depends not on the 'realism' of its assumptions but on its ability to explain or predict real world events.' - Milton Friedman |
