岩岩作完 幫手改改+comment, thx a lot

Topic: In the past year, many unscrupulous shop-owners have been condemned by the consumer council for misleading consumers. Write a letter to the editor of the young post discussing how such shopping traps adversely affect our tourist industry. Then suggest three possible ideas to give tourists better protection and safeguard Hong Kong’s reputation as a shopper’s paradise.

Dear Editor,

Hong Kong has long been reputed as a “shopper’s paradise”. This reputation has brought many benefits to us and attracted a tremendous amount of tourists to Hong Kong. However, the news reported throughout the last year concerning the unscrupulous shop-owners who misled consumers had given us a serious red-signal. If we still turned a blind eye on this issue, our reputation as a “shopper’s paradise” might probably disappear in a short term.

The problem that may happen is the sharply descending numbers of tourists and the damage on Hong Kong’s reputation. After shopping in Hong Kong, the consumers may find out that they are misguided and bought goods in a much higher value than they really worth. Afterwards, they may become furious and resentful. Those customers will never come to Hong Kong again in the future. Worse still, they will spread out their miserable experiences to their friends and relatives. Their friends and relatives will then further spread out the issue to the people around them and so on. Such a domino-effect will make more and more people alerting the problem that had been happened in Hong Kong. At this time, no matter what the government tries to do, it is too late and the problem has become far beyond our redemption. A vigorously decreasing tourist’s numbers will certainly happen and no-one will have the confidence to buy things in Hong Kong anymore.

To prevent such a terrible consequence, the government should immediately take the initiative in governing those deceitful sellers. A proper method to control their action is by legislation. Increasing the fine for misleading actions towards consumers can threaten the sellers. As their opportunity cost for broken the law has been increased, they will have less incentive to betray the customers. Legislation can also reflect the attitude of the government towards the issue. Telling the sellers that the government will not tolerate such deceitful action so that they will then prefer to operate honestly rather than swindle customers.

An alternative method to give tourists better protection is to set up a convenient and transparent reporting scheme to the crimes. Once the consumer suspect that he or she has been misguided, they can call the police immediately. The staff concerning the problem can then investigate the report and take actions if necessary. This scheme can give a channel to the misguided customers and facilitate them to gain back their losses.

The last method I suggest is to give every tourist a leaflet. The leaflet can include some information about the goods selling in Hong Kong, such as their selling prices. As a result, the customer will not be cheated easily. Besides, the leaflet may also include some well-reputed shops’ addresses. This can stimulate the sellers to improve their image and prevent the customers from falling into shopping traps.

To save Hong Kong’s tourist industry, misleading action is in anyway, non-acceptable. Being a resident in Hong Kong, it is the responsibility for all of us, including you and me, to punish those dishonest sellers. Stop turning a blind eye on it, we must stand up and prohibit this problem from growing into a disaster!

Yours faithfully,
Chris

threaten - negative meaning..有D 怪

staffs - no s... and you can use pronouns..

tourist who comes to Hong Kong cut "who comes to Hong Kong", 我地叫得tourist, 來香港是定了的

其實shopping paradise 同shopper's paradise 係唔係可以共用?

1st para
>我都覺得shopping paradise is ok.
>brought many benefits, what benefits? no elaboration.
if attracting tourists is one of the benefits, then this sentense should be connected with "such as" instead.
>no preposition before next / last if it is describing time
>the unscrupulous shop-owners who misled consumers , avoid copying question, think of alternatives.
>might => would,  place more certainty on your stance.
>in a short term , then means the effect is not long term? then just forget the issue.

last para
>non-acceptable <-- i only know not acceptable, is this word really exist?
> Being a resident in Hong Kong <-- don't add relundant thing, write Hong Kong resident
>it is the responsibility for all of us, "including you and me" <- 又丫字數 =.=
>Stop turning a blind eye on it <- use too many times is no good. Use alternative expression
>we must stand up and prohibit this problem from growing into a disaster!
prohibit A from B....i'm not sure about this senstance structure, but i recommend u to write it in another way
e.g. stand up and work together to probhit such crimes to prevent the problem from growing into a disaster.
